From the First Step to the Podium : Pankaj Madaan’s Border Experience Running has transformed …
The BORDER 100 is a 100-mile ultra like no other-born to honor the 120 heroes who held the Longewala post through one of India’s fiercest battles. Runners charge out of Jaisalmer, into the endless Thar Desert, racing toward the iconic Indo-Pak border under blazing sun, roaring headwinds, golden sunsets, and moonlit, freezing nights.
Flat yet fiercely demanding, the final stretch unleashes rolling sand dunes that break even the toughest athletes. Every mile echoes courage. Every step carries the legacy of Longewala forward. This isn’t just a race-it’s a battlefield of endurance.

“Somewhere in the endless night, when the desert finally goes silent, I meet the version of myself life often hides. I don’t run 100 miles to prove anything, I run to rediscover my truth.
Four Border finishes have taught me one thing – the desert uncovers what you carry within.”

“Ever since 2021 my first appearance at the Border 100 mile, thanks to my friend Rashmi Mohanty, this run has become an addiction.
The race categories I believe are:
50K – if one wants to TASTE something awesome100K – if one wants to HUNT something awesome
100M – if one wants to be the awesome fella to “Be Hunted””
Biplab Mukherjee
“Here I am again, gearing up for another 100 miles. This time the goal is bigger, want to improve my timing and qualify for Spartathlon, which means finishing under 21 hours. The dream number in my head is 19. If I hit that, I’ll be over the moon.”
Mukund Naair
“Three years at the Border Ultra 100 miles taught me to embrace the pain, love the grind, and fall deeper into the beautiful madness of ultrarunning.”
Arti Agrawal
“Like Brida, I stepped into the darkness to discover the light within.” – inspired by Brida by Paulo Coelho
Border 100 Miles tested every layer of me – the scorching sun, the lilac sunset, the freezing night, and the golden sunrise. But somewhere in those shifting skies and endless miles, I met a version of myself I didn’t know existed.
From 24:50 to 21:24 – proof that when you walk through the darkness with courage, you rise different. Stronger. Brighter. Unshakeable.
Border doesn’t just challenge you.
It transforms you.”

“And somewhere between the sweat, the struggle, and the silence of the night, I felt that familiar fire – the same fire that got me through my Ironman, my marathons, my long runs, and all the days when I chose to keep showing up.
Then came the moment I’ll never forget.
00:17, 15 Dec – full moon night.
I reached the finish line and saw my family waiting.
All the pain disappeared the second I heard them scream:
“You’re the first female in this race!””

“My hell race border 100km in Jaisalmer was amazing. The tough terrain and long silent stretches made me mentally stronger and showed me what real resilience feels like. Crossing that finish line wasn’t just about completing 100 km, it was about discovering a stronger me.
Now I’m attempting the 100 miles to see what my body is truly capable of. It’s going to be super tough and it scares me, but that’s exactly why I want to try and push my limits.”

“All those long training days, the sleepless nights after Burger King shifts, the boxing drills, the skipping-everything led here. It was worth it.”

“What started as a 7:26 struggle in my first 50K became a 5:58 finish the next year. This year, it becomes a 100K attempt. Running teaches you this: the version of you that starts is never the one that finishes. Keep going-you might surprise yourself.”
