Event Details
Running a Marathon is itself a challenge but running the LADAKH MARATHON (42.195km) is even a greater challenge. A tough race at a high altitude, the Ladakh Marathon is not for those with no experience in running marathons but for those who have had dedicated themselves to several months of training. Individuals new to running should begin with a shorter distance and then move up. If you are a serious long distance runner this will be one race that will be a “must do” and one that you will always remember and be talking about for a long time to come.

Eligibility
To participate in the Ladakh Marathon, runners must meet both age and performance eligibility criteria depending on the race category. The minimum age ranges from 12 years for the 5 km run, 14 years for the 11.2 km run, 16 years for the half marathon (21.1 km), 18 years for the full marathon (42.2 km), 20 years for the Khardung La Challenge (72 km), and 24 years for the Silk Route Ultra (122 km). For the marathon, runners must have either completed one full marathon under 6 hours after 1 January 2025 or two half marathons under 3 hours within the qualifying period. For the half marathon, participants should have one half marathon under 3 hours or two 10 km races under 1 hour 30 minutes. Ultra categories have stricter requirements, usually requiring previous ultra-distance race experience or strong marathon results. All qualifying races must be official events with valid finisher certificates, and virtual races are not accepted. Because the race takes place in Leh at around 3,500 meters altitude, runners are strongly advised to arrive early and acclimatize before race day to avoid altitude-related issues. 🏔️🏃♂️
BIB Information
For the Ladakh Marathon, the bib distribution is done in person at the Ladakh Marathon Expo in Leh. Runners must collect their bib and timing chip themselves from N.D.S. Memorial Stadium, Leh, between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, and they must bring a valid photo ID (such as Aadhaar, passport, or driving license). Bibs cannot be collected by someone else and no bibs are issued before or after the assigned dates, so runners must plan their travel accordingly. (Ladakh Marathon)
For the 2026 edition, bib collection dates are:
-
Silk Route Ultra (122 km) and Khardung La Challenge (72 km): 29–30 August 2026
-
Marathon (42.2 km), Half Marathon (21.1 km), 11.2 km Run, and 5 km Run: 5–6 September 2026 (Ladakh Marathon)
Participants must wear the bib clearly on the front of their shirt during the entire race, and the entry bib is non-transferable—if someone runs with another person’s bib, they will be disqualified. (Ladakh Marathon)
If you want, I can also tell you what comes inside the race kit (t-shirt, chip, gear, etc.), which is useful if you’re planning to run this race. 🏔️🏃♂️
