Eligibility
The BMW BERLIN-MARATHON is organized according to the international competition regulations of the World Athletics (WA) of the German Athletics Federation (DLV).
- Participants aged 18 (age group 2007) and older are allowed to attend the race
- the course must be completed within the time limit of 6:15 hours (starting from crossing the starting line)
- Walker are permitted as long as they stay within the time limit of 6:15 hours
- Nordic walkers are not entitled to compete
- Handbikes and race wheelchairs are the only authorized sports equipment.
All athletes born in 2009 and older are eligible to start
Regardless of the starting class, only those participants who can complete the race under their own power are eligible to start.
- Auxiliary drives of any kind are not permitted.
- Knee bikes are not permitted.
The BMW BERLIN-MARATHON for
- wheelchair athletes is organized in accordance with the regulations of the Para Athletics Department of the German Disabled Sports Association (DBS) and World Para Athletics (WPA). The starting classes below are based on the international starting classes (T51, T52 and T53/54).
- handbikers is organised in accordance with the regulations of the German Para Cycling Federation (DBS) and Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). All athletes over the age of 16 are eligible to start. The starting classes below are based on the international starting classes (H1-H4).

Five Challenges on the Road to BMW BERLIN-MARATHON
These aren’t extra runs – they’re milestones in your training journey. Each challenge provides structure, connects you with the community, and keeps you on track from your first fitness check to active recovery after the finish line.

Challenge 1 – CITY NIGHT RACE CHECK (July 26 – August 3, 2025) · 10 km
Test your current pace – live at the adidas Runners City Night or on your own route. A fast 10K that shows you where you stand. -
Challenge 2 – LONG RUN (August 9 – August 17, 2025) · 30+ km
A true classic in your preparation: build endurance, train mental strength, and lay the foundation for your marathon finish. -
Challenge 3 – Die GENERALPROBE (August 24 – August 31, 2025) · 21.1 km (Half Marathon)
Your final big test before race day – live in Berlin or on your own. Time to see how ready you are. -
Challenge 4 – TAPERING RUN (September 6 – September 14, 2025) · 8–12 km
The marathon is close. Reduce load, sharpen focus, and enjoy a calm, relaxed run for active recovery. -
Challenge 5 – RECOVERY RUN (September 23 – September 30, 2025) · Your choice
Legends recover too. Run easy, regenerate, and reflect. Your cooldown at the end of the ROAD TO BERLIN.
