Event Details

40th Pune International Marathon 2026 is premium Marathon event in India. Since 1983, thousands of runners from all walks of life have taken part in the event. Pune International Marathon is now widely used as a platform to spread social message and to raise fund for charitable cause. Pune International Marathon route consist of city of Pune’s scenic and historic locations with thousands of spectators lining up the course to cheer runners. It is the most anticipated running festival of city of Pune.

A bright Sunday morning in September 1983 saw thousands of people participating in the very first Pune Marathon – a run for fun and fitness. Within just three years it grew into a great event on the international sports calendar. The first time a balding Swedish School teacher Tommy Pesson beat all opposition to the finish line.

The marathon lovingly remembers the Tanzanian soldier Stewan Marwa who almost missed taking part and went on to win. And our own long distance runner, Savio D’souza, who overcame physical setback to win the race ! It has indeed been a tribute to men’s achievements, a saga of success, a test of endurance. Let’s go back a little and relive the unforgettable moments of tears and triumph.

  • Full Marathon: Minimum age 18 years; Cut-off time – 6 hours

  • Half Marathon: Minimum age 18 years; Cut-off time – 4 hours

  • 10 km & 5 km Runs: Open to all (no strict cut-off)

  • Family Run: Open category: Children below 12 years must be accompanied by an adult

Elite & Open Categories

  • The Elite & Open Categories recognize the top male and female performers in the Full Marathon and Half Marathon events.

  • Elite Category: For highly competitive and experienced runners.

  • Open Category: Open to all registered participants, regardless of experience level.

  • Winners may receive trophies, medals, certificates, and cash prizes as per event rules. Valid ID and age proof are required for prize claims.

Age-Group Awards

  • Trophies or medals are usually given to top performers in various age groups (e.g., 18–30, 31–45, 46–60, 60+).

Finisher Rewards

    • No cancellations, refunds, or participant transfers will be permitted after registration.

    • Participants must register using accurate personal information and a valid ID proof.

    Race Bib & Timing Chip

    • Participants must wear the official race bib visibly on the front during the race.

    • Altering, folding, transferring, or tampering with the bib may result in disqualification.

    • Timing chips are mandatory for timed race categories.

    • Failure to wear the timing chip correctly may result in:

    • No official race timing
    • No finisher certificate
    • No eligibility for rankings or prizes

    Health & Safety

    • Participants must ensure they are medically fit to participate.

    • Organizers reserve the right to stop any participant deemed medically unfit.

    • Participants must follow all instructions issued by race officials, volunteers, and security personnel.

    • Medical aid and emergency support will be available along the race route.

    Event Conduct

    • Participants must maintain sportsmanlike conduct throughout the event.

    • Any misconduct, cheating, or behaviour that endangers others may result in immediate disqualification.

    • Littering on the race route is strictly prohibited.

    Photography & Media

    • By participating, runners grant permission to the organizers to use event photographs and videos for promotional and marketing purposes.

    • Organizers reserve the right to modify event schedules, routes, or rules due to safety, weather, or unforeseen circumstances.

    • All decisions made by the Organizing Committee and Race Director shall be final.
